Lorenzo Savona
General Manager and Sommelier

Lorenzo Savona is recognized as one of the premier restauranteurs and wine gurus in the Boston metropolitan area. Most recently, until August 2003, Lorenzo was the general manager and wine director at Upstairs on the Square, an award winning, fine dining restaurant located in Harvard Square, Cambridge, MA. While there, he created the restaurant wine list; and wine tasting and wine dinner program. The restaurant was recognized for its food and wine program by Bon Appetit, Travel & Liesure, Boston Magazine and other publications.

From 1994 to late 2002, Lorenzo founded and managed Les Zygomates, a successful, award winning wine bar and French bistro located in downtown Boston's leather district. Upon its debut, Les Zygomates was dubbed "the bistro that has everyone talking" by Boston Magazine. Under Lorenzo's watchful eye, Les Zygomates' wine collection was recognized not only by regional media but also by such national publications as The Wine Enthusiast, Gourmet Magazine and Wine Spectator, among others. While at Les Zygomates, Lorenzo was selected by Food and Wine Magazine as the Best Sommelier in Boston in 1999 and by The Improper Bostonian as Boston's Best Restaurant Oenologist (sic).

His first restaurant job came via Hartford's L'Americain, where he began to develop knowledge of and appreciation for fine wines. When the general manager moved to the St. Cloud Restaurant in Boston, Lorenzo followed. Additionally his restaurant experience includes managing Rebecca's Café in Boston; and renovating the all-American wine program and creating a wine school for the staff at The Fireplace Restaurant in Brookline, MA.

Lorenzo was a guest lecturer at the University of Rouen, Rouen, France in 1990 and 1991. He received a Bachelor of Arts, English/Italian, Minor in French, from the University of Connecticut, in 1987.
