Cinqueterre Chef Joseph Catalano

Chef Joseph Catalano a New Jersey native of Italian ancestry, his parents are from the sunny island of Sicily, has joined Ristorante Cinque Terre.

Joseph’s father, also a Chef, introduced the pleasures of cooking and preparing great meals to his young son. His mother instead, taught Joseph the art of home made Sicilian cooking. At the tender age of eight, Joseph would stand on milk crates to reach the stove trying to emulate what his father would do.

In 1996, Joseph attended the New York Restaurant School to successfully certify his studies of the Culinary Arts. While he was in school, he also worked as Assistant Chef de cuisine at The Dining Room in the Hilton Hotel in Short Hills, New Jersey. As Assistant Chef de cuisine, he created a fall menu from which two (2) dishes were selected and featured in the Food Arts Magazine. He also designed and instituted a health-conscious spa menu, and conducted bi-monthly cooking class demonstrations.

In 1999, Joseph became Executive Chef at Pazzo Pazzo restaurant in New Jersey, where he revamped the restaurant’s rating to a 4 stars in a period of merely 6 months. Since then Mr. Catalano has worked for other well-known restaurants such as 9seven3 and La Grotta degli Amici, he has received also several favorable reviews in the New Jersey Star Ledger and the Daily Record. Mr. Catalano has also served as a consultant to some Italian American restaurant helping them establishing themselves with a more innovating Italian cuisine.

Joseph stays connected with his roots, keeping his cuisine authentic by using imported products; he prepares his recipes with integrity, passion and a love for cooking.
