Fred Dexheimer
National Wine and Beverage Director for BLT Restaurant Group
Fred Dexheimer has over 10 years of concentrated experience in the wine industry. His enviable pedigree has ushered him through some of New York City's most esteemed restaurants including Daniel, Gramercy Tavern, Cello, L'Impero and Jean Georges.
Dexheimer became the sommelier for BLT Steak when the restaurant first opened in 2004. It was not long until he assumed the role of Beverage Director for the expanding BLT Restaurant Group. In early 2007 Dexheimer joined importer T. Edward Wines as Domestic Portfolio and Education Director. This position allowed him to expand his knowledge of the import and distribution aspects of the wine business. In 2008, Dexheimer returned to his position as National Wine and Beverage Director for BLT Restaurant Group, mentoring a burgeoning team of talented sommeliers who articulate his vision through Chef Laurent Tourondel's BLT Restaurants.
Dexheimer has received a number of accolades, among them a 2004 victory in the Young Sommelier Competition for the Northeast and third place at the International Trophee Ruinart Sommelier Competition in Reims, France. He was awarded the Rising Star Sommelier Award from StarChefs and an award from Starwine International Wine Competition in 2005. Wine & Spirits honored him with their Best Young Sommelier Award in 2006, and he was named one of the magazine's "Rock Star Sommeliers" of the past 25 years in their 25th Anniversary issue the following year.
Dexheimer has utilized his skills as a taster for Wine & Spirits, The New York Times and the Starwine International Wine Competition. He was accepted by the Association Sommeliere de la Internationale as a candidate for the Best Sommelier of the World Competition in 2007.
In addition to his work with BLT Restaurant Group, Dexheimer is involved with United Sommeliers, a movement led by wine professionals dedicated to creating a community of passionate, experienced sommeliers around the country. Dexheimer is also an avid runner and fuels his passion for fitness by participating in several New York City charity races. |
